One of life’s most important lessons is: it’s always better to have something and not need it, than the other way around. This approach can definitely be applied to pet ownership. Having all of your pet’s bases covered means that you don’t have to worry about things slipping through the cracks. Regular pet wellness exams are a critical part of the puzzle—and are a terrific place to start.

Strong Foundation for Good Health

Once kittens and puppies are fully vaccinated, microchipped and spayed/neutered, we recommend scheduling their routine pet wellness exams once a year. This gives us the opportunity to address any concerns about their nutrition, behavior, dental health and any developing health problems.

If they need any vaccination boosters or parasite prevention medication we can make sure they’re fully protected at their yearly pet wellness exam.

What to Expect

We look forward to talking with pet owners about their pet’s physical, behavioral and emotional health. With an emphasis on prevention, the following are a part of every exam:

  • A complete nose-to-tail physical exam
  • Close inspection of the nose, ears and eyes
  • A look at the appearance of the teeth and gums
  • Feeling the abdomen and listening to organs
  • Looking for any skin disorders or lumps and bumps
  • Check weight and discuss nutrition
  • Discuss any mobility concerns, and check for joint tenderness
  • Discuss your pet’s lifestyle and behavior

Each pet is unique and we tailor every exam to meet their special needs. No matter their species, breed, age, gender and current health status, we are committed to delivering the most comprehensive care possible.

What About Tests?

Pet wellness exams help us establish a baseline for your pet. We compare successive results to earlier values to pinpoint any changes between visits. By having a healthy/normal baseline, future results can lead to early diagnosis and a potentially better outcome during treatment.

Slowing Down

As pet’s get older, the risk of an age-related illness increases. As a result, we recommend two pet wellness exams a year. By staying in front of any issues, or catching problems before they get out of hand, treatments are often more effective (and possibly less costly).

Elements of Care

There are many different facets of pet wellness that can be applied at home. Starting with their environment, it’s important that it’s safe, warm, and comfortable. If they have access to their yard, be sure that it is properly contained for their maximum enjoyment and security.

Enrichment opportunities are also critical to pet wellness. All pets need and benefit from daily exercise (aim for at least 20 minutes every day). Engaging toys that help them burn off steam, should be rotated on a regular basis. Keeping them at a healthy weight is a priority.

Pet dental care is essential to long term health and wellness. We recommend professional cleanings, but in between those brushing at home helps to reduce the buildup of plaque and tartar.
